Om. Peace.

or, the blog formerly known as The Ornery Postulant, Open to the Possibilities, and Obfuscating Preponderance. (What?? I'm going through a many-faceted period of metamorphosis. And I like to word-play on the O.P. according to my mood.)
What do you get when you take everything you thought you knew and everything you always thought you wanted and toss it all up in the air? Yeah, I don't know yet either. Invoking Om, however, I pray Peace.

Quoth the Dyke

In the midst of our witty banter tonight, my housemate/landlady, Terri, just inadvertently came up with the title to my (yet-to-be written) memoir:

Quoth the Dyke

Hysterical!! I love it! I love shooting the shit with Terri & Michael! I love living here! I love my life!!

The Back-story: Boyfriend Michael had come across some of Terri's makeup in the bathroom, reading aloud, "Lip-Plumping-Lip-Gloss?" as any skeptical straight guy (and British to boot) might. Terri asserted--in classic Terri style--that, "Oh yes, men like that sort of thing," and it indeed worked and really plumped the lips. Boyfriend Michael replied incredulously, "It does?" At which point, I shouted up to the bathroom (second floor, back of the house) from the living room (first floor, front of the house),* "It really does!" To which Terri responded with this show-stopping quip that I, of course, instantly appropriated.

* If you knew this wacky house, you'd understand how this sort of (quite regular) exchange is possible--and that it doesn't even require eavesdropping or raised voices!

I hope she doesn't demand too much of a cut of the royalties when Quoth the Dyke: a straight scoop written in crooked lines*, hits the best seller list!

* The subtitle is, of course, still a work in progress. As is the content of the work itself....

Pic of the Day

This is what my mom and Taylor were doing when my sister got home from work today:

Carma's comment? "Well, at least they aren't out causing trouble!"

To which I reply, "You mean like this?!"

It's about time:

Court says money discriminates against blind people

Euros (and other world currency like the Dutch Gelder) have long been designed to be more user-friendly for people with a range of visual limitations:

Here's one proposal for a more "blind-friendly" U.S. currency (though not all blind-advocacy groups agree that a redesign is needed).

On an unrelated note, I have much in the way of "What's up with Natty"-type stuff to catch you up on too, but I gotta keep this brief and get around for Day 2 of orientation and training for my new job! It's just a substitute/on-call position, but it is in the library and it's finally a real foot-in-the door with one of the local public library systems, so Yay!!

5 days away from the internet...

... and I have 56 Yahoo emails, and there were 6 comments awaiting moderation here for the blog. I haven't even looked at my Hotmail, Gmail, MySpace, or Facebook accounts yet! It's amazing I've not had any twitches of withdrawal or anything! My inbox(es), however, are another story!

As a matter of fact, except for anticipating the massive "cleanup/catch up" effort I'm about to embark upon, I was really rather enjoying my vacation in 100% "real world" activities. (Ok, except for a few hours spent playing Diablo II in offline mode.) Strange, indeed. I must really be getting old now, huh??

And so, I just paid $3.50 for a peach smoothie at a local coffeehouse here in Auburnvilletuckeyana, so as to be in accord with their multiple signs pleading for people to PLEASE buy a drink when using their "FREE Wi-Fi." I get their point, especially being a small local business, but the signage is rather pervasive from the moment you walk in the door, and ends up making one feel not quite welcome. Furthermore, I felt the owner's eyes boring a hole right thru my monitor until I went up to the counter to place my order. I wasn't gonna buy anything until and unless I knew I was going to be able to get my laptop to connect first, ya know?

Once I did go up to order, I came away wondering once again if she's simply got a quirky sense of humor or if she's genuinely just abrasive and can hardly contain it under the thinnest veil of pseudo-cordiality for the sake of doing business. This is not my favorite place really, but options are limited in this town. Still, I do prefer Brew Daily's downtown, and for a moment or two I seriously considered relocating. Oh well, perhaps I'll stop in there tomorrow for my "fix" (of Wi-Fi, more so than coffee or smoothies, of course)

Anyway, as I'm generally not a huge coffee fan, and was also really preferring a cold drink to coffee (iced coffee = *blegh!*), and simply buying a $1.00 bottle of water seemed a bit... not quite the point, I went for the smoothie, opting for peach over strawberry, raspberry, or "burst of berry." Aren't you so fulfilled now that you know all that?? ;)

I "Tater-sat" on Monday and again yesterday. And now I do believe I've just about had my fill of baby-ness for a little while. I'm back to being quite content with the give-back-able part of auntie-dom! Mom, however, who is babysitting today, considers Tater-sittin' a most excellent reason to get out of bed in the morning. She is thrilled *beyond* measure to hold that kid at any given opportunity.

And of course I do have some more pics forthcoming...

Now it's off to dive in and start shoveling away at each of my neglected accounts. I wonder how many "Hello? Are you still alive out there?" messages I'll run into? ;)

Oh, btw: YAY!!!

How do you spell exhausted?

N-A-T-T-Y!

Thursday: Went to the Kinderparade in Holland. I didn't wear my pedometer, but I hoofed at least a couple of miles I'd say.

Friday: Walked downtown to pick up my RiverBank Run race packet at DeVos Place, and looked around the sports & fitness expo there. Then I ended up meandering around downtown before heading home. It was a beautiful day, and I logged about 4 miles (and 2 deliciously messy chili cheese dogs with shredded pickle--YUM!!) in total.

[Colorful narrative detail of these adventures to be added after nappage...]

Today: (7:30 a.m.) Walked down Michigan Street hill to, and (11:00 a.m.) back uuuuuup Lyon Street hill home from the RiverBank Run--not to mention the actual 5K walk, as well as a little wandering around the spectacle before and after the official she-bang.

I finished the 5K walk in just under an hour. (I clocked it at about 56 minutes.) So I did beat my goal of less than an hour, and it was faster than last year, but I'd liked to have done better. And to think, there for a minute or two this morning, I was fantasizing about getting in shape enough to run the 5K next year.

ROFLMAO!!!

Perhaps I'll just shoot for 45 minutes or less next year. The first mile took me about 17 minutes, and I'm sure I only got slower from there. But all-in-all, I had a pretty good time. I have a handful of pics to upload from my phone (Gee, but I love having a camera phone!), and hopefully I'll get 'em posted in the next few days for y'all.

I think it took me longer to walk home once I decided to head that way, than any of the rest of it! OMG! Damn "Heritage"/"Pill" HILL, anyway!

And so, I am tiiiiiiired, and sore. I'm really wishing for a hot-tub--or even just a bathtub--right about now. As it is, I'm debating whether to take a shower before or after I take a nap. Currently, owing to my sprawly position on the couch, the nap is quickly taking the lead...

And to think, some days I'd be just getting up right about now!
